‘ராணா’ படத்தை பற்றி நாளொரு மேனியும் பொழுதொரு வண்ணமுமாக புதுபுதுப் செய்திகள் வெளியாவது ‘ராணா’ டீமை ரொம்பவே யோசிக்கவைத்திருக்கிறது. எதற்கு வதந்திகளுக்கு இடம் கொடுப்பானேன், நாமே பிரஸ்ஸை அழைத்து உண்மையை சொல்லிவிடலாம் என்று முடிவு செய்த இயக்குனரும் தயாரிப்பாளரும் இன்று காலை ஒரு அவசர பிரஸ்மீட் வைத்து பல தகவல்களை சொல்லி வதந்திகளுக்கு பெரிய முற்றுப் புள்ளி வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

‘சுல்தான் தி வாரியார்’ படத்தை நான் இயக்குவதாக தான் முதலில் பேசப்பட்டது. பிறகு ரஜினி சொன்ன கதை அனைவருக்கும் பிடித்துப் போனதால் அந்தக் கதையையே படமாக்குவது என்று முடிவுசெய்யப்பட்டது. படத்தின் கதை அவருக்கு மட்டுமே தெரியும்.
சௌந்தர்யா இயக்கி வரும் ‘சுல்தான் தி வாரியார்’ இப்போதைக்கு இல்லை எனவும், அந்தப் படத்தை அவர் பார்த்துக்கொள்வார் எனவும் முடிவும் எடுக்கப்பட்டது. இதில் சௌந்தர்யா டெக்னிகல் டைரக்டர் மட்டுமே. ‘ராணா’வில் ரேகா, ஹேமாமாலினி, என தினம் தினம் ஒரு செய்தி வெளியாவதால் நானே விளக்கமளித்துவிடுவது என்ற முடிவுக்கு வந்துவிட்டேன்.
எல்லா நடிகைகளிடமும் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். இதில் 6 முதல் 7 கதாநாயகிகள் வரை நடிக்கின்றனர். அனைவருமே முன்னணி நடிகையர் தான். 17 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் நடைபெற்ற ஒரு வரலாற்று சம்பவத்தை சினிமாவுக்கான கற்பனையை சேர்த்து வழங்க உள்ளோம். தற்போதைக்கு தீபிகா படுகோனே மட்டும் ஒப்பந்தாமாகியுள்ளார். (ஹப்பா.. எனக்கு அது போதும்!).
தேர்தலில் வாக்களித்துவிட்டு அடுத்த மாத இறுதியில் இங்கிலாந்தில் படப்பிடிப்பை தொடங்கவிருக்கிறோம். படப்பிடிப்பு காலம் ஒரு வருடம் என தீர்மானித்திருக்கிறோம். சென்னையில் மிகப் பெரிய
செட்கள் அமைக்க இருக்கிறோம். படத்தின் பட்ஜெட் இப்போதைக்கு ரூ.100 கோடிகள் என்றாலும் அதற்க்கு மேலும் அதிகரிக்கக்கூடும்.
முதல் பகுதி ஸ்க்ரிப்ட் எழுதி முடித்துவிட்டேன். இரண்டால் பகுதி எழுதிவருகிறேன். படத்தில் அசின் நடிக்கவில்லை. வித்யா பாலனிடம் பேசியது உண்மை. அதே போல இதில் கமல் நடிப்பாரா என்று கேட்கிறார்கள். (யாருப்பா அது கேட்டது? ஏன்… ஏன்… இந்த கொலை வெறி?) அவருக்கான கேரக்டர் இதில் இல்லை. (ஹப்பா!).
வழக்கமாக என் படங்களில் இடம் பெரும் பன்ச் வசனங்கள் போல இதிலும் பன்ச் வசனங்கள் இருக்கிறது. அது கதையோடு பொருந்தி இருக்கும். நிறைய கதாநாயகிகள் நடிப்பது போல, கதாநாயகர்களும் இதில் நடிக்கிறார்கள்.
ரத்னவேலு ஒலிப்பதிவு செய்கிறார். ரஹ்மான் இசையமைக்கிறார். அவர் ஏற்கனவே பாடல் கம்போஸிங்கில் தீவிரமாக இருக்கிறார்.

KSR and Soundarya clarify about Rana
At a hurriedly-convened press meet in the city on Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated flick ‘Rana’, the director of the movie K.S. Ravikumar, and the daughter of the Superstar, Soundarya Ashwin, who is also technical director of the film, clarified some of the speculative reports that have been appearing in the media of late.
They made it clear that that the action-packed trilingual has a fresh script and is not a rip-off of ‘Sultan the Warrior’, the earlier animated film of the actor, as assumed by a section of the media.
“The story of this historical film, set in the 17th century, is the brainchild of the Superstar and has nothing to do with ‘Sultan’…That film is totally directed by Soundarya and she has plans to complete it later,” he said.
Rubbishing reports about Bollywood actress Rekha, who is said to have demanded Rs.4 crore to play opposite Rajini and that KSR could not cast her, he said, “The rumours are baseless. I have never spoken to Rekha or for that matter Hema Malini for ‘Rana’. As of now, only Deepika Padukone has been signed.”
However, the ‘Muthu’ director agreed that since ‘Rana’ is a very big film and Rajini is playing a triple role, they have to speak to many other stars. “We are still talking to Vidya Balan, but nothing is finalised. Talks with Ileana too have been initiated. But the problem at the moment is that Rajini sir and I are fine-tuning the script even now. When it reaches its final shape, if any of these characters are reduced to minuscule figures, then we cannot justify casting big actresses like Vidya Balan.”
He also did not rule out the possibility of big actors who will share screen space with Rajinikanth. On punch lines for Rajini he said, “My films are always filled with contemporary dialogues. Rana is no different.”
The movie, produced by Eros International, has A.R. Rahman composing the music and Ratnavel behind the camera and shooting is likely to commence around the last week of April.
