A press meet was held at the Sheraton Park Hotel & Towers, Chennai, to announce the 58th FilmFare Award nominees. The awards are sponsored jointly by Worldwide Media and Idea Cellular for the third consecutive year. Jitesh Pillai, Editor - Filmfare said, “I’m privileged in the sense that I grew up watching greats like Sathyan sir, Shivaji Ganesan, NTR and more recently Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal wield their magic onscreen -- and it gives me great pleasure in continuing to carry the torch of the great tradition that is the Filmfare Awards. Year after year watching the best of Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema is a mind-opening exercise. Besides celebrating excellence, the South Awards are a counterpoint to the North, give voice to the fact that for Filmfare, cinema isn’t just confined to the Hindi heartland but is a pan-Indian experience.”

In the best film category, Myna, Aayirathil Oruvan, Endhiran, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya and Angadi Theru will complete. Arya, Karthi, Suriya, STR, Rajinikanth and Vikram will vie for the best award while for the best actress it would be Trisha, Nayantara, Anjali, Amala Paul, Reema Sen and Tamannah. Apart from Tamil film, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films, stars and technicians have also been nominated.
