ENDHIRAN - PUNCHES OF THE TEASER

A few moments from the Endhiran trailer caused frenzy in the theaters. The trailer was screened during the interval of a show and going by the response, it almost looked as if the people were more eager to see the trailer than the actual movie being shown (which was quite good by itself). Such is the effect that Superstar has!

‘Get ready folks’

The closing touch of the trailer is perhaps the best. Robot is literally firing on all cylinders. Holding a bevy of machine guns between his hands (a still that has already created huge excitement), Superstar gets ready to fire a ‘few’ rounds, but not before giving a warning in the most stylish manner possible, ‘Get ready folks.’

The firing ball

We don’t know what exactly this is, because there was barely a glimpse in the trailer. But, from what we saw, it looks like a firing ball. Apparently, the Robot, or some other entity in the movie has the ability to take different shapes. In one instance, it takes the shape of a huge ball and starts rolling along the road, simultaneously firing in all directions – cool; Might give engineers great ideas for the development of a combat machine that can fire in all directions when behind enemy lines.

The metallic serpent

The polymorphic abilities of the Robot don’t seem to stop with the firing ball. Most of you might have noticed the fleeting glimpse that was given of the huge metallic snake that was set to unleash itself on the roads of the city. We really have no idea why a robot would want to take the form of a metallic snake – guess we will have to wait for the film to understand.

Run on a running train

This should be one of the most adrenaline pumping scenes of the movie, of which we were given quite a good preview in the trailer. A train moving at top speed and Robot running on its side – not along its side. If you have not seen the trailer, then you are not getting the full picture of what is actually happening on screen here. This scene alone is enough to confirm the level of perfection that has been achieved with respect to the visual effects of the movie; especially the part where he Robot jumps over a post which comes up parallel to the train; top class VFX.

The flying kick

All this while, we have been talking about some of the most amazing visual effects that are present in Endhiran. But, there seems to be more than just visual effects here. We have always enjoyed Superstar’s action scenes. They have been a mixture of speed, agility and style. But, we never thought that he could do some of his best action sequences past the age of 60. One glimpse at the trailer gives us an idea of how much he has worked on the stunts – a flying kick that he gives. In the brief glimpse that we had, it looked like Superstar, not any body double. And, how much ever we talk about visual effects such scenes are not possible without the actor’s cooperation.

Endhiran

Superstar

The best part of the trailer however was the presence of Superstar – not in the movie, but to introduce the trailer to us and tell a few things. Among the many things he said, the most important were that this was the most expensive movie ever made in India, that Shankar had taken almost twenty days to cut out the perfect trailer and that Rahman had spent more than a week to get its music ready. At the end of the trailer, Superstar reappears and tells us in his signature style that the movie is going to be far beyond what the trailer suggests; looks like he is quiet confident, so are we.
